Welcome to the MOGEL website! We are located at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, part of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. Under the direction of Professor Rodger Harvey, our group focuses on organic geochemistry and biogeochemistry of aquatic environments. We have a diverse group of projects ranging from Chesapeake Bay to the Arctic Ocean.

During the month of July, MOGEL members Karen Taylor, Rachel Pleuthner, and Charlie Morgan will be on an oceanographic research cruise in the Bering Sea aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker Healy. They will be collecting krill samples in support of an NSF-sponsored project to understand the effects of climate change on Bering Sea Ecosystems.

Charlie is an undergraduate student at Lyon College in Arkansas, visiting MOGEL for the summer as part of the Maryland Sea Grant REU program. He will be blogging about his experiences on the high seas--Read about Charlie's adventures here.
